Weekly Announcements - December 10, 2017

posted Sep 1, 2017, 11:44 AM by Mifflin Pres   [ updated Dec 8, 2017, 7:25 AM ]

The flowers on the table are given by Al & Jo Keller in memory of Howard & Elsie King. The side door flowers are given by Jenny Block in celebration of her dad, Don Swift’s 94th birthday.

Per Capita Contributions

In December, Mifflin pays its annual Per Capita request. The Per Capita amount this year is $33 per member and Mifflin’s portion is $12,243. The Per Capita is allocated in support of the larger church, its operations, and its    missions. Of the amount above, $22 will go to Presbytery of Scioto Valley. PSV covers 23 counties in Ohio running from Marion down to Portsmouth along Rte 23 and as far east as Athens along Rte 33. You can imagine the needs are great in these regions. Mifflin always pays our full requested amount and that is budgeted. If you would like to help offset that cost, please consider offering your family’s portion using the rate given above. Please mark the check Per Capita and place it in the provided envelope. Thank you for helping us help the larger church.

How important are the "gifts" we received last week? How do they help the "Body" function? Come tonight to myGroup to see how things work. myGroup begins tonight at 6pm with dinner, followed by our meeting from 6:30-7:30pm.

Advent Sunday School Class

Join us as we explore the history and relevance of several Advent hymns. This study reminds us that hymns have histories: written by particular people, often in response to particular circumstances in the writers' lives. More than this, hymns teach history. By paying attention to their back stories, we learn of joys and struggles that occupied our ancestors in the faith from biblical times to our own. David and Kathi Bubb are leading this class in room 10.

Friday Morning Bible Study - Open to All

Beginning January 12th, at 9:30am, in room 8, a new study - "Cloud of      Witnesses, the Community of Christ in Hebrews", by Melissa Bane Sevier. This study explores the nine major themes found in the book of Hebrews, how they relate to other parts of our faith tradition, and tie them together with the overarching motif of community. Join us as we learn from the past and reach into the future as a community of faith, serving God's world. Books are $10 - please sign up at the Info Center. For more info, contact Hazel Riegler.

Adult Sunday School

Upcoming Adult Sunday School classes for January 7-February 11: Ed Ward will be leading "Mere Christianity" - Exploring the History, Meaning and     Relevance of C.S. Lewis's Greatest Book (Rm 5), and Teri Eriksen will be leading "Life and Ministry of the Messiah" by Ray Vander Laan (Rm 10). Stay tuned for more details about these two exciting classes!

Maundy Thursday

Come for worship at 7pm as we remember those last days of Jesus’ life.

Good Friday Prayer Walk

You will have any opportunity to participate in a Prayer Walk at Mifflin. Arrive any time between 10am and 1pm, and again from 5pm to 7pm. This walk may be done as an individual, with a friend or as a family. The Prayer Walk takes you through seven stations set up in our Sunday School classrooms, each with a scripture, a reflection and an activity that you do at your own pace. These stations typically take 20–30 minutes and are appropriate for elementary children through adults. There will be contemplative organ music playing in the sanctuary from 12:00 - 12:30 pm.

Easter Party

On April 15th we will have our annual Easter Party – so much more than an egg hunt! We will have crafts, snacks (coffee for the parents), games, and the 8th Day Puppets will be performing! Be sure and join us at 10am for a great time – children AND their parents or grandparents welcome - and don’t forget to bring the Easter baskets for those eggs. If you would like to donate toward this party there is a donation box at the Info Center.

Suggestions are: plastic eggs, candy that does not have any nuts or peanut butter in it, small toys, bubbles, or erasers that are small enough to fit into a plastic egg. Contact Kathi Bubb with any questions.

Easter Sunday

April 16th, join your church family in celebrating Jesus’ resurrection! Worship will be at regular times. Please join us at 10am in Fellowship Hall. The Deacons will be providing breakfast! If you would like to help with the set up, cooking, or clean up, the Deacons would welcome your help, just let them know.
