What is LOGOS?
LOGOS is a midweek program for children and youth designed
over 30 years ago as "Youth Club". It
is a "camp-like" experience each week.
LOGOS involves the congregation in this intergenerational
program, while building relationships into a community
of faith.
The Parts of LOGOS
1) Bible Study
The "Heart of the LOGOS Program," Bible
Study nurtures our children into biblically informed
discipleship.
2) Worship Skills/Choir
This segment of LOGOS develops practice in a responsibility
for Worship Skills, including music. Worship is
the basic form of Christian Service.
3) Play Time
Great fun at the expense of no one. Treating
everyone as a child of God, the only "rule"
of LOGOS, is practiced here.
4) Family Time/Dinner
All LOGOS children are together for dinner. Being
a family of God is experienced here, around tables
with multi-age groupings and a Table Parent. Family
Time, after dinner allows for some "holy hilarity."
LOGOS at Mifflin
In the fall of 2008, LOGOS will start its
12th year. We have a homework and hang-out
time available from 2:45 - 3:45 for children
who need to arrive before the program begins.
Our Worship Skills involve singing, chimes
and drama. In Play Time, games and crafts
are offered on a three week, rotating basis.
A weekly theme encourages the children to
dress accordingly, and the theme is highlighted
at dinner time.
Schedule
Dates: October 2008 through March 2009.
(There are a few holidays when there is
no LOGOS.)
Time: 3:45 - 6:15 pm
Note: 2:45 - 3:45 is homework and hang-out time,
which parents need to sign up for in October. The
children can choose between a homework room or a
room in which to watch a movie or play board games.
Snacks are sold for $.25 each.
LOGOS Family Orientation
Attendance at the LOGOS Family Orientation
is required. This helps each parent understand
what LOGOS is and what is expected of them.
This is also the time when parents register
their children for the program.
Fees
The current LOGOS registration fee is $85 per child
with a $200 limit per family. The LOGOS philosophy
is for parents to accept the responsibility of financing
the program. Historically, when parents pay, 90%
attendance can be expected. Payment arrangements
can be made by speaking to the director. Registration
forms are available in the church office.
Who to Contact
The LOGOS Director is available to answer your questions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I don't have a child that age. How can I participate?
A: LOGOS encourages inter-generational relationships.
Volunteers of all ages and talents will be needed
for teaching, support and kitchen staff, table parents,
etc.
Q: How do parents participate?
A: There are a variety of opportunities for parental
participation in LOGOS even for working parents.
Active participation by at least one parent of every
child in LOGOS is encouraged. Some parents are asked
to lead/support, transport, or teach various activities
at appropriate times by the LOGOS director. Other
parents are asked to sign up or will be assigned
to help with preparation or clean-up for the weekly
dinner hour.
Q: My child is always tired and hungry after school
and has a lot of homework, what should I do?
A: People usually make time for those things that they
count important. Time for your children to develop
a personal relationship with God is the best gift
you can offer them. There is nothing that prepares
them better for their lives ahead. In addition,
if you consider that you are eating dinner, LOGOS
demands are not extravagant. A homework time is
available from 2:45 to 3:45 before LOGOS begins.
Snacks and drinks may be purchased during this time.
Q: Can my child come to only one part of the program?
A: The value of the LOGOS program is not the activities
offered, but the total program of growing relationships
through a variety of activities. It is a balanced
approach to understanding Christian discipleship
that seeks to develop the whole person in the context
of a caring Christian community. Participation in
all four parts is recommended. However, if a child
is unable to commit to the entire LOGOS program,
but wishes to be involved in Sunday worship activities,
exceptions will be made for attendance of the worship
portion only.
