Weddings
Lights are low, candlelight graces the aisles, as music
by our organist fills the sanctuary, a wedding ceremony
is about to begin.
Any marriage needs a spiritual environment to create
and maintain a cohesive atmosphere as a "new
life together" begins, and a new home is established.
For this reason, counseling by our pastoral staff
is required.
Couples are encouraged to take an active role in their church
and become involved in the many activities available.
Just a phone call to the Church office
at 471-4491 to talk with a Pastor.
Baptisms
In the sacrament of Christian Baptism, when the
one to be baptized is a child, it is the parent(s)
who are publicly acknowledging their own faith in
Jesus Christ. This is done before family, friends,
and gathered Church where they promise to raise
their child in a Christian environment with the
prayerful hope that when they are old enough to
make their own way in the world, they will embrace
the faith of their parent(s). This covenant also
involves each member of the gathered Church who
promises to support the parent(s) in the Christian
upbringing of their child.
When the one to be baptized is an adult, he/she
is required to publicly profess their own faith
in Jesus Christ. Here again, the gathered Church
promises to support them in their ongoing spiritual
pilgrimage.
Communion
The sacrament of Holy Communion is normally celebrated
the first Sunday of each month - although there
are additional occasions, such as Maundy Thursday
and Christmas Eve. The sacrament is not exclusive
- we invite all who acknowledge Jesus Christ as
Lord and Savior and recognize our individual sins
and shortcomings to participate with us. This sacrament
reminds us not only of what God in Christ has done
for us, but also is a reminder of what God is presently
doing as well as what He has promised to do in terms
of the future.
Funeral and Memorial Services
Luncheons following funeral and memorial services are offered
to Mifflin Presbyterian Church's family and friends.
Various size groups can be accommodated, and Mifflin's central
location allows the family an opportunity to take
care of family matters and visit with guests. Our
Women's Gathering prepares a meat selection and
the ladies prepare an assortment of vegetables and
salads, along with dessert.
We are happy to assist any family in this regard. Simply
notify our Church office at 471-4491 should the
need arise.
